Uses of Navane:
Navane belongs to theantipsychotic class of drugs and us used in the treatment of schizophrenia, a crippling disorder in which patients lose touch with reality and experience psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions and mental confusion. Navane works by decreasing the level of the neurotransmitter dopamine in the brain.
Dosage:
Navane is available in the form of liquid or as capsules and should be taken in the exact dose prescribed by your doctor. You must not stop taking the medication abruptly without the consent of your doctor as it may worsen some of the symptoms of the disorder you are being treated for. The drug can be ingested with or without food. It is not recommended for children below the age of 12 years.
Warning and Precautions:
Do not take Navane if you are allergic to antipsychotic drugs. Intake of this medicine can result in a disorder known as tardive dyskinesia that is accompanied by involuntary movements of the face, arms and legs such as blinking of the eyes, twitching of the nose, tremors etc. Tell your doctor if you are taking any other medicines such as antihistamines, barbiturates, antidepressants, anticoagulants or aspirin before taking this medicine. You must notify your doctor in case you have been diagnosed with r have a history of any other ailment such as brain tumors, thyroid disorder, enlarged prostrate, cardiovascular disease, blood dyscrasias etc.
Navane can result in severe renal and hepatic impairment; therefore, caution is advised when administering it to patients with a kidney or liver disease. It should not be taken with oral contraceptives, diet pills or sleeping pills. If you are pregnant or lactating, you must tell your doctor before takingNavane.
Additional caution and regular drug monitoring is advised in patients suffering from epilepsy and hypertension. DO NOT take alcohol when on this medicine.Navane can cause drowsiness; therefore, it is advisable to avoid driving or operating any hazardous machinery after taking the medicine.
This medicine should not be given to elderly patients who are suffering from dementia related psychosis as it may result in death.
Side effects of Navane:
Some of the most common side effects of the medication include drowsiness, weight gain, vertigo, nausea, constipation, headache, insomnia, vomiting, blurred vision, dry mouth, confusion, aggression and sleep disturbances
Overdose:
Symptoms of Navane overdose include drowsiness, vertigo, twitching of the muscles, central nervous system (CNS) depression, fatigue, stiffness, salivation, tremors, hypotension and coma. In case of an overdose of the medication, you must report to your doctor at the earliest or contact your local poison control center.
