Manerix

Manerix: Drug Information

Generic Name: Moclobemide

Brand Name: Aurorix, Rimarex, Trima

Drug Class: Antidepressant, RIMA

Uses of Manerix :

Manerix is a reversible and selective inhibitor of monoamine oxidase (MAO) and works by holding back the reuptake of monoamine oxidase in the brain. It is widely recommended for the treatment of Major depressive disorder and social phobia. It helps combat feelings of anxiety, fear, sadness, loss of appetite and nervousness. The biggest advantage of this medicine is that it s better tolerated by patients than tricyclic antidepressants and non-selective monoamine oxidase inhibitors. It also has a low over dose toxicity potential and does not exert adverse sedative, anticholinergic, cardiovascular, cognitive and psychomotor effects.

Dosage:

You must take Manerix as directed by your doctor at regular intervals with or without food. DO NOT stop taking the medicine even if you begin to feel better without consulting your doctor as it may worsen your present condition.

Warning and precautions:

Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to it.

Manerix should not be given to patients suffering from delusions, hallucinations, acute confusion, schizophrenia, schizoaffective psychosis and pheochromocytoma (neuroendocrine tumor of the medulla of the adrenal glands).

The medicine is not to be given to infants and children and must be kept out of their reach.

Tell your doctor if you are suffering from kidney disease, liver disease, enlarged prostrate, hypothyroidism, heart disease or brain tumors.

Notify your doctor before taking the drug if you are pregnant or lactating. Manerix can pass into the breast milk and is not recommended during lactation.

Tell your doctor if you are on Manerix or have been in the past 2 weeks before any surgical treatment.

Drug Interaction:

Manerix should not be taken with certain drugs such as meperidine and codeine. Caution is advised when taking Manerix with morphine or fenatyl. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) and tricyclic antidepressants (TCA) should not be taken along with this medicine.

Side Effects:

Some of the most common side effects of Manerix include nausea, liver failure, chloelithiasis, dizziness, insomnia, headache, tremors, constipation, agitation, increased sweating, anxiety, restlessness, flushing of the face, skin rash, irritability, panic and stomach upset.
