Uses of Inderal:
Inderal is an anti-hypertensive beta blocker and is used in the treatment of hypertension, arterial fibrillation and Pheochromocytoma. It is also used to reduce the frequency of angina and heart death in patients who have survived a heart attack. In addition to this, it is used to prevent migraine headaches characterized by severe pain, increased sensitivity to light, nausea, dizziness, vomiting and fatigue. It decreases hypertension and enables the heart to pump slowly.
Dosage:
Inderal should be taken as directed by your doctor at regular intervals. Do not exceed the dosage n your own in order to avoid any harmful side effects.
Warning and Precautions:
Do not take this medicine if you are hypersensitive to it.
It is not recommended for patients diagnosed withsinus bradycardia, heart block greater than 1 st degree, cardiogenic shock, bronchial asthma, untreated cardiac failure, hypoglycemia or severe hemorrhage.
Caution is advised when administering this medication to patients switching from conventional to sustained release preparations.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or lactating before taking Inderal.
Caution and strict drug monitoring is required when giving this medicine to the elderly.
Caution needs to be maintained when administering this medicine to patients diagnosed with or having a history of ischaemic heart disease, kidney or liver disease or congestive cardiac failure.
Do not reduce the dosage of Inderal all of a sudden.
Drug Interactions:
Concurrent use with chlorpromazine results in raised blood levels of both drugs and additive hypotensive effect. Intake of cimetidine with Inderal results in elevated blood levels. This medicine results in increased episodes of hypoglycaemia and masking of hypoglycemic symptoms in diabetic patients. Smoking reduces the effectiveness of Inderal.
Side effects:
Some of the most common side effects of the medication include cold extremities, insomnia, constipation, impotence, diarrhea,central nervous system (CNS) disturbances, fatigue, vertigo, mood changes, vivid dreams, lassitude and nausea.
