Uses of Dalmane:
Dalmane is used in the treatment of insomnia and is known to possess anxiolytic, sedative and anticonvulsant properties. It is a central nervous system depressant and caused drowsiness, thereby inducing sleep.
Dosage:
Take this medicine as directed by your doctor and avoid taking it in excessive dosage. It is best to take this medicine before going to bed. Dalmane can be a habit forming drug and may result in drug dependency if taken for a long time.
Warning and Precautions:
Do not take Dalmane if you are hypersensitive to it.
This medicine if not recommended for patients with a preexisting central nervous system (CNS) depression, respiratory depression, acute pulmonary insufficiency, severe liver or kidney disease, sleep apnea, chronic psychosis, phobic or obsession states or bone marrow depression.
Do not give this medicine if the patent is unconscious.
Dalmane may trigger suicidal or aggressive tendencies in patients.
It should not be used alone to treat depression or anxiety associated with depression.
This medicine is not recommended for infants and children.
Dalmane should not be taken in the third trimester of pregnancy as it can harm the fetus.
Tell your doctor in case you have been diagnosed with or have a history of chronic pulmonary insufficiency, muscle weakness, kidney or liver disorder before taking this medicine.
Caution is advised when administering this medicine to the elderly.
Talk to your doctor if you have a personality disorder or organic brain changes.
Do not take this medicine if you have a history of alcohol or drug abuse.
Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery after taking this medicine.
Dalmane may result in respiratory depression and hypotension.
Drug Interactions of Dalmane:
Dalmane interacts with antidepressants, antihistamines, antipsychotics, general anesthetics, hypnotics, sedatives, opioid analgesics and cisapride. Increased toxicity is reported when co-administered with omeprazole, cimetidine, ciprofloxacin, clarithromycin, central nervous system (CNS) depressants, disulfiram, erythromycin, ethanol, levodopa, metroprolol, nefazodone, phenytoin, valproic acid and verapamil. Carbamazepine, rifampicin and rifabutin reduce the effectiveness of Dalmane.Herbs such as valerian, ST John’s wort, kava kava and gotu kola may increase the central nervous system (CNS) depression.
Side effects of Dalmane:
Some of the most common side effects of the medication include drowsiness, lightheadedness, sedation, muscle weakness, ataxia, vertigo, headache, depression, mental confusion, tremors, decreased libido, slurred speech, visual disturbances, salivation changes and amnesia.
