Camcolit is an antidepressant, antimanic drug used in the treatment of psychiatric disorders like acute mania and hypomania and as a preventive treatment for persistent manic depressive psychosis. The genetic name of this drug is Lithium Carbonate and it is sold under the brand name of Camcolit. The other common names used for Camcolit are A-Lith, Alkalith, Carbolith, Elcab, Lalithium, Licab, Lithium, Lithosin, Salith, and Trilith.
Although the precise mode of action of Camcolit has not been established, it is believed that lithium modifies the transport of sodium in the neurons, muscle cells and the intra neuronal metabolism of catecholamine.
Dosage:
Camcolit needs to be taken orally as prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop taking this medicine abruptly as it may worsen your present condition. Camcolit is not recommended for children.

Drug Interactions:
The interaction of Camcolit with ACE inhibitors causes lithium toxicity. Intake of camcolit with diuretics and Non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (excluding aspirin) leads to a reduction in lithium excretion. When taken with neuroleptics Camcolit might lead to encephalitis. This medicine should not be taken with antidepressants and mono amine oxidase inhibitors.
Side effects of Camcolit:
Some of the most common side effects of the drug include psoriasis, acne, inability to concentrate, chills, tremors, hypothyroidism, unusual weight gain, restlessness, depression, nervousness, irregular heartbeat, dizziness, headache, nausea and vomiting.
