Uses of Calcium Carbimide:
Calcium Carbimide is an alcohol sensitizing agent that is sold under the brand name Temposil. It interferes with the normal metabolism of alcohol by preventing the breakdown of the metabolic byproduct known as acetaldehyde. On consumption of alcohol, patients on this drug undergo severe reactions such as sweating, difficulty in breathing, increased heart palpitation, appearance of rash, nausea, vomiting and headache. It is advisable for you to consult a registered medical practitioner prior to taking any drugs for depression as most of the drugs are prescribed for other illnesses as well.
Dosage:
For treatment of alcoholism: After taking the drug, the alcohol challenge reaction will occur from 12 to 24 hours. After 15 hours the reaction will become mild in nature and it is essential to take the dose after every 12 hours for proper effect of the drug. The symptoms of alcohol reaction include conjunctivitis, flushing, changes in blood pressure, vomiting, nausea, dizziness, headache, palpitation, tremors and drowsiness.
Warning and Precautions:
Do not take this medicine if you are hypersensitive to it. It is observed that after taking this medicine the blood count may be increased by2000 white blood cells. Once the medication is discontinued, it returns to normal. Caution needs to be taken when administering the drug to patients with asthma, coronary heart disease or myocardial disease.
Side effects of Calcium Carbimide:
Some of the most common side effects of the medication include fatigue, drowsiness, dizziness, appearance of rash, tinnitus, urinary frequency, impotence, depression and dullness.
Overdose:
In case of an overdose of the medication, you must report to your doctor at the earliest or contact your local poison control center. The adverse reaction of the drug can be stopped by administering an oxygen mask or by injecting antihistamines.
