Headache Fever

A headache is one of the most common ailments affecting thousands of people everyday. This is why most of us tend to take it rather lightly and pop over the counter (OTC) medications the minute a headache begins. There are various types of headaches with different underlying causes and treatments. It is therefore, essential for you to consult a doctor in case you experience a headache frequently in order to get an appropriate diagnosis.

Headache and fever go hand in hand. When you are suffering from high fever the blood vessels in the body get dilated. These dilated blood vessels in the head can trigger a headache which can range from moderate to severe intensity. If fever is brought down, the headache automatically subsides.

Causes of fever headache:

Most viral infections are known to cause fever headaches and can be treated by taking appropriate medications.

Meningitis can also cause fever and headache. Meningitis is a viral or bacterial infection of the body tissues known as meninges and the fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord.

Encephalitis is a viral infection of the brain and can cause fever headache.

A sun stroke can also lead to very high temperature and headache.

Symptoms of Fever headache:

The patient experiences chronic pain in the head, skull, forehead, behind the eyes and temples.

This can be accompanied by vomiting, stiff neck and flushing of the face.

The patient feels unwell and may even show the appearance of a rash.

Fever headache is also accompanied by body ache.

Treatment of Fever headache:

It is important to go to a doctor and get diagnosed in order to treat the infection responsible for causing the headache. Usually medicines such as paracetamol or ibuprofen are administered to treat fever as well as headache. Your doctor can also prescribe antibiotics in order to treat the underlying infection and may recommend further test if the fever persists after a few days.
