Botox headache

Botox is also known as botulinum toxin and falls under the category of neurotoxins. These drugs are known to attack our nerve cellsand work by weakening or paralyzing the muscles by inhibiting the release of acetylcholine in the human body. Acetylcholine is an ester of choline that is known to play an essential role in the transmission of nerve impulses at the synapses and the muscle nerve junctions also known as myoneural. If the release of acetylcholine is inhibited the nerves are unable to cause muscle contraction. Botox has been approved by the FDA to fight muscular hyperactivity and is administered by injecting it directly in the affected muscles. Botox is quite effective in relieving headache pain and that of a migraine.

Researches have been trying to study the drug for the treatment of chronic headaches for quite some time. Headaches such as tension or stress headaches and migraines seem to respond well to this drug.

Stress headaches: The main feature of these headaches is that they are self induced owing to stress that creates muscular tightness leading to the development of mild to moderate intensity pain across the forehead, back of the head and throughout the skull.

Migraines: All types of migraines cause a throbbing pain on one side of the head and are accompanied by nausea, visual disturbances and increased sensitivity to light, sound and smell. Botox headache relief is now gaining immense popularity and is widely recommended for the treatment of chronic headaches.

Botox is known for reducing wrinkles and is used by cosmetic surgeons all across the globe. It is also used to treat various other ailments such as excessive underarm sweating, hyperhydrosis, muscle stiffness, twisted necks, muscular spasms and twitching of the eyes.
