Famous people who suffered from depression     

Depression can take anyone in its grip at any point of time. History is witness that this deadly disorder which works like slow poison is not bound to any social status, race, religion, cast or creed. Anyone can fall prey to depression. There are thousands of eminent people who have been victimized by mental illness at some point of time in their life. From authoritative emperors and successful actors to powerful politicians and Brilliant writers, everyone has been subject to some type of disorder at a particular stage.

There are several famous people who suffered from depression and continue to suffer even today. The list is endless and is increasing day by day. Several of our idols underwent unsuccessful therapies and suffered from social stigma on account of mental melancholies ranging from bipolar disorder, melancholia, multiple personality disorder and schizophrenia to nervosa, dementia and anxiety.

As per statistics, almost 72 % of famous writers, 41% politicians, 42% artists, 33% scientists, 36% intellectuals and 35% composers suffer from depression.

Famous People who suffered from depression:

Napoleon Bonaparte: The great French emperor suffered from Bipolar Depression. This illness is characterized by extreme mood swings, major depressive episodes, agitation, anxiety, fatigue, impulsiveness, insomnia, suicidal tendencies, mania, racing thoughts, confusion etc.

Abraham Lincoln: The 16th President of America suffered from debilitating melancholia characterized by strong suicidal tendencies, depressed mood, and decrease in pleasure, agitation, fatigue and feelings of worthlessness.

Marilyn Monroe: The gorgeous and extremely talented American actress and sex symbol suffered from bipolar disorder and also had characteristics of borderline personality disorder. She was known to experience extreme highs and lows accompanied by sudden impulsive behavior, alcohol and drug abuse. She was unstable and often had anger fits, black and white thinking, mood swings and harsh feelings of abandonment.
