What is Stress?

Stress is that kind of problem which we have to face daily in our life. Stress always dominates us while eating, loitering or doing some work. Even when we sit alone then also stress seems to be our constant companion. The presence of stress within a limit is somewhat acceptable but if it crosses the limit than it starts affecting the daily routine of a person. So, it becomes very important for us to understand stress in totality.

There are always some sought of good or bad things happening around us. If all the good or bad things are related to us then it will surely produce reaction in our body. For instance, whenever we laugh, cry, get angry, irritated, feel like killing someone, or get excited about doing any activity. All such reactions are the outcome of stress. Things which cause stress are called stressors.

Whenever we face stressors, our body respond to them. It activates the nervous system and some special types of hormones. In this process, adrenalin hormone produced by adrenal gland situated close to the kidney and cortisol hormone enters the blood stream because of which the heart beat, blood pressure as well as metabolic activities increases. As a result, muscles get alert, body starts sweating and liver produces glucose which provides energy to the body & also allows body to cool. All these changes prepare the body to handle a particular situation.

Types of Stress

Negative Stress occurs when any particular incident, thing or a person produces negative reaction in the body. For instance, when you have this feeling that as a person you cannot do this activity, feel inferior as compared to others, take your life as insignificant and want to fight or hurt anyone. All those aspects which make a person feel that his or her life is a burden and is not able to do any activity normally come under the category of negative stress. It can be controlled by taking appropriate advice from the doctor or by following stress management technique.

In Positive Stress, body reacts positively towards varied type of stress. Here, a person is encouraged to move forward in life or to do something better. There’s a sense of motivation. This type of stress is beneficial in human life but it must remain within the specified limit.
