Uses of Tomato
Tomato is the most easily available and all season vegetable. It has a delicious taste and has multiple utilities. It can be consumed in raw form or can be used in various food preparations. It can be used to make juices and soups too. It has health benefits and can be useful for treating skin ailments.
Tomato has high content of water. Eating raw tomatoes can refill the water content in the body. It is a good source to prevent dehydration, especially during summer. You can consume it when there is no source of water or non availability of safe drinking water.
Tomato is a common ingredient for vegetable salads. Slices of tomato consumed with the meal, helps to reduce the effect of spicy food. It helps in diluting the spicy flavour and pungent taste, and prevents heartburning sensation.
Due to the presence of dietary fibre, it helps in the process of digestion. It improves the roughage content and also enables easy passage of stools. It is an effective remedy for prevention and treatment of constipation.
It is also a source of vitamins B, C, A and K. It has anti oxidant properties and helps in preventing heart ailments.
Tomatoes are also low in fat and cholesterol. They do not raise the calorie count and prevent obesity and cholesterol related problems. It keeps the blood sugar level under control and also purifies blood.
Tomato has a cooling effect on the body due to the presence of water. Water helps in regulating the body temperature. Tomato juice or squash can be beneficial liquid supplements for providing relief from extreme heat. A cocktail of tomato-orange/tomato-beetroot juice is tasty and improves the nutritional value of the drink.
It has properties that help in providing skin care. Applying tomato juice or slightly rubbing the tomato slice on the facial skin removes impurities, reduces oiliness and prevents acne. Applying the juice under eyes is known to reduce dark circles.
