Treatment of Kidney Stones

In the operation of kidney stones, numerous modern techniques are used. Because of this reason, patient now faces minimum trouble during the course of its treatment. During the past two decades with regard to kidney, an increase has been noticed in the treatment of urine & stone related ailments. On the other hand, in case of medicinal treatment, doctors have to rely on modern research, eating pattern as well as medicines. From research it has come to light that by treating the metabolism of human body and taking associated medicines for it, the need for an operation to remove stones in kidney can be done away with.

Around fifteen to eighteen percent of people in the age group of twenty to sixty years suffer from the problem of kidney stones. Cases of kidney stones are more in men as compared to women. In most of the conditions, chaos in the metabolism of the body has been identified as one of the reasons of developing kidney stones but sometimes its reasons are not known. The increased quantity of calcium oxalate in urine or due to deficiency of citrate increases the amount of calcium oxalate which in the longer run becomes the major cause of developing stones in kidney.

There can be variety of reason for the increased amount of calcium oxalate in urine. For instance, the rising quantity of calcium oxalate in food, the rapid absorption of calcium oxalate in intestine, its reduced absorption by kidney because of which its deposits gets accumulated on the kidney walls which in the later stages of life takes the form of stones. Big amount of uric acid in the body can also contribute in the formation of kidney stones.

A person suffering from kidney stone will complain of stomach ache. Kidneys located on the right and left side of the stomach can develop stones and the pain occurs at some specific point. In the affected people, blood or pus will be found in the urine. Besides this, x-ray of stomach, ultrasound and excretory urogram are some of the methods by which the problem of kidney stones can be diagnosed.

If the stones are small in size then they can be removed by taking medicines but if the stone is bigger in size or quantity then without going for surgery stones can be removed by the technique of lithotripsy. In this procedure, bigger stones are broken into small pieces by putting shockwave on it in a controlled manner. As a preventive measure, patient is advised to drink lots of water but it must be filtered.
