Treating Acidity

Acidity can cause a burning sensation. It can make you uncomfortable and uneasy. Acidity can also have negative side effects like nausea, vomiting, sudden acute headache, dizziness and other physical conditions.

Acidity is caused by faulty eating habits and lifestyle. Not eating food at regular intervals, unbalanced eating habits (for example eating a lot of spicy, oily, greasy food), lack of rest and sleep, persistent stress, anxiety and tension can also cause acidity.

Acidity can be treated by using over the counter acidity relief tonic, antacids or medication prescribed by doctors. You can also use home remedies and natural foods for treating acidity.

Drinking lots of water is the easiest and natural way of reducing acidity. Water is a universal solvent and helps in dissolving acidity causing agents, and provides relief. Sipping on chilled water can reduce the heartburning sensation.

Drinking non-acidic juices can help. For example, coconut water is a good antidote for acidity. Similarly, drinking carrot juice or buttermilk with a pinch of black pepper power can also provide relief.

Avoid drinking carbonated drinks like soda or coke. Avoiding intake of caffeine based drinks like coffee, and alcohol. Rather, a glass of cold milk will be beneficial. Freshly made pineapple juice or lemon juice with mint leaves or ginger lemon juice will help.

Including ginger in diet will help as it aids the digestion process and reduces the burning sensation.

Eating raw vegetables is beneficial. You can use slices of cucumber or tomato.  Include more green leafy vegetables in your food. Intake of curd will reduce the burning sensation. Making a salad of curd and grated cucumber is also known to provide relief.

Do not eat spicy or oily food. Avoid milk products like butter, cheese, cottage cheese etc. Avoid sweet meats and chocolates.

Consuming fruits like banana and papaya is known to be beneficial.

Adequate rest and sleep is also essential. Avoid any kind of stress or tension. Calm down and be relaxed by following deep breathing exercises or meditation.
