Accept the reality that you are no longer together and he/she will not come back. Accept that fact that he/she is not apart of your life now. Some may take longer time in accepting this fact than others.
Do not cast your ex in bad light and do not start hating them. This will not help you in forgetting your ex.
Let go of your anger, hurt, frustration and grudges. It is necessary for you as if you will drag all these in your new relation, then it can create disaster.
Accept your mistakes that you have done in your previous relation and learn from those mistakes. View your previous relation as a learning experience. By doing this, you will make sure that you don’t repeat the same mistake again.
Your ex can never be your “just friend”. So stop fooling yourself and stop calling her or showing up at the places where he/she can be.
Take all the pictures, letters, cards, gifts and any other think that is related to your ex and throw them out of your life. If you cannot throw them than put them in a box and stash it in storage space.
Talk to your friends and try to distract yourself with movies, outdoor activities or whatever you like to do. Indulge yourself in exercise.
If have found a new partner, than tell your new partner about your ex, So that she/he can understand your situation and can support you. But don’t keep on talking about your ex.
Introduce your partner to your friends and don’t compare your new partner with your ex in any way. Appreciate your new partner and make him/her special.
