Tips to Avoid Vomiting During Travel

Some of us who may be in perfect health may find it difficult to handle long journeys. Motion sickness may make it difficult for you to undertake journeys by any mode of transport or a mode in particular say, bus or vehicles that run on diesel/gas specifically. It also causes a kind of embarrassment and inconvenience to us and maybe to people around us too.

Whenever possible choose modes of transport that you feel more friendly with. Sometimes, travel sickness may happen when you are using a particular mode of transport for the first time. However, by using the same mode again and again, the body may get used to it and then the journey can become perfectly comfortable and normal. So you may just have to bear a little inconvenience till your body is acclimatized to this new form or vehicle used.

You can take some precautions especially where diet is concerned so that you do not provoke a feeling of nausea or vomiting. While travelling, always eat light but the right kind of food. Do not eat to the brim and travel immediately. Neither should you starve yourself before travelling. The ideal thing to do is to eat atleast one hour before commencing the journey.

Eat low fat food. Do not eat items that are deep fried, dripping in oil, spicy or excessively salted. Avoid eating fast food like burgers, pizza, noodles while/before travelling. Eat natural light food, like say you may snack on vegetable sandwich comprising slices of raw vegetables like cucumber, tomato and boiled potatoes/beetroot.

You may munch on peanuts, raisins, cashew nut or dry figs rather than eating finger chips, potato fries, deep fried wafers and so on. Eating fruits is a good option. Banana, watermelon, apple or oranges will be good while travelling as they are instant sources of energy due to presence of natural sugar. Also, they supplement the body with water and prevent dehydration.

Avoid drinking soda, artificial soft drinks, caffeinated or alcoholic drinks while travelling. Rather sipping on coconut juice, consuming plain water, or a glass of plain lemon juice or lemon juice with ginger or honey is better. Consuming ginger tea may also help.
