Therapies for Stress Reduction
Stress has become one of the prominent health conditions that require immediate attention to prevent the long-term health implications it could have. Stress needs immediate attention because it builds up easily and can give rise to conditions like hypertension, dizziness, fatigue and exhaustion, light-headedness, difficulty in breathing, increased heartbeat etc.
Neutralizing stress is necessary on a day to day basis because the stressors are prevalent wherever we go, for example during travelling, rushing up to workplace, providing for the family and children, completing household chores, pressure at workplace, sudden emergencies and so on.
The anti dote to stress is relaxation. Relaxation can be induced by various exercises like workout, long walks, swimming, cycling etc. Yoga exercises also bring down the level of anxiety, restlessness and hypertension and help to loosen the tense muscles and nerves.
Meditation is another effective remedy for stress. Focusing on a single object or going into a state of void and experiencing higher level of self or uniting with the universal energy can induce a feeling of peace and calm and also create positive energy and spirit. Deep breathing exercises can also be an instant way of nullifying stress.
Stress reduction can also be achieved by therapies like water therapy, laughter therapy, or dance therapy. Water is known to have a lot of therapeutic value for healing physical as well as mental conditions. A leisurely bath can reduce the strain and tension in the body and mind. It makes you feel light and unburdened and induces a state of inner calmness.
Laughter therapy with a group is a good way to lighten the tension and anxiety created in daily life and also boosts your social life. Laughter therapy helps in exercising the facial muscles and reduces the rigidity and strain in these muscles.
Dance therapy is another way of expressing and releasing the pent up energy or strain. It improves the mind and body co-ordination and also helps in regulating breathing.
