The Problem of Diabetes

Diabetes or sugar is considered as a lifestyle related disorder or an ailment passed on from one generation to another. When pancreas gland produces low amount of insulin or stops producing it altogether, then it gives rise to the problem of diabetes.

Insulin helps in controlling glucose in the blood. Without its help, cells are not able to utilize sugar or glucose for the purpose of getting energy. You will be amazed to know that the symptoms of this particular ailment take around ten to fifteen years to become visible. However, forty five to fifty percent of the patients are those who have family history in diabetes.

Types of Diabetes

Diabetes is mainly divided into two categories. First category is of Type 1 diabetes (Insulin based diabetes). In it, the insulin hormone stops producing completely. It happens because of a particular antibody which stops the proper functioning of beta cells. In such cases, to control the increasing amount of glucose in the body, the injection of insulin is administered. If this treatment is avoided, then the patient can also faint and sometimes can slip into coma. Second category is of Type 2 diabetes (Non-insulin based diabetes). In it, insulin is produced in lower quantity which means that pancreas are not functioning properly. This type of diabetes is normally found in adults. More than ninety percent of the diabetic patients belong to this category.  It can be controlled by way of exercise, balanced diet and medicines.

Symptoms of Diabetes

Sometimes, people are not able to know that they are suffering from diabetes. If regular check-up is not done, then for ten to fifteen years, an affected person remains unaware about this ailment. However, there are certain symptoms by which the initial symptoms of diabetes can be recognized.

If a wound takes much longer time to heal and a person feels unusual itching in the private parts of the body. The body weight of a person decreases or increases rapidly. Such people experiences blurred vision and feel more hungry and thirsty. Some of the other signs are feeling more tired than normal, developing skin ailments repeatedly. Numbness will be felt in legs and hands and there will be a type of sensation where a person will feel as if some insect is crawling. Ants will collect on the urine of a diabetic patient. Remember that all the symptoms mentioned can also be an indication of some other ailments. So, before jumping to any conclusion, get yourself tested.
