Tackling Tension

Tension is the most common phenomenon prevalent today. Tension is basically the result of daily stressors, pressures, frustrations, compulsions, expectations, fears and insecurities. The most minor and simplest of problems can cause tension, anxiety, worry and panic among people.

Tackling tension has to be done with a determined effort and practical bent of mind as it is very easy to slip into tension, worry and subsequently depression. It is easy to get tensed and bogged down by issues of daily concern. So you need to take a very rational and positive approach to handle tension.

Realize that tension is not going to solve your problem, it may actually compound it. The more tensed you get, the more difficult it will be to cope with problems and difficulties. Do not see problems as an end in itself. Of course problems can cause concern and worry, but being tensed will make you feel even more vulnerable and insecure.

Adopt the policy of wait and watch. Do not act on impulse and take drastic decisions. Do not get panicky. Wait for the shock and impact of the problem to lessen. The worry and tension will automatically reduce as you may begin to see a way out or steps for solving the problem.

Live to enjoy life. It is easy to feel sad, depressed, demotivated and frustrated by various things that may happen to you. However, realize that certain things have to happen and will happen. You have no control to change it or alter it. Being depressed or tensed is not the solution.

Learn to take things as they come. Problems are not an end of life. It may appear to be negative and insurmountable, but in retrospect you may find that the perceived problem has changed the course of your life for better. Don’t be judgmental about it and draw negative conclusions.

Relax and learn to detach and unwind daily. You can use activities like exercises, hobbies, yoga or meditation and other activities that you feel will alleviate stress and tension.
