Shyness induced depression
Shyness is a sort of personality disorder that on most occasions is dismissed as something too trivial to be considered as a something that needs attention and advice.
Shyness is indeed a personality trait of so many people. But when it gets to an extent where it restricts normal social interaction that is when the problem arises.
Shy people can easily get depressed, because they find it difficult to express their feelings to another person. They are always plagued with feelings of being judged incorrectly. Most of the time, shy people want to please other people, or do not want to rub others the wrong way.
There is definitely a distinction between shyness and introversion, although both are used interchangeably. Shyness can stem from lack of self-confidence. Introversion can also be due to lack of confidence, but more so due to other external factors that inhibit free thought and speech.
So why can shyness lead to depression…
- Here we are talking about shyness that has intruded into normal interpersonal relations. Most shy people have a problem in getting that self-confidence that is much required to meet new people, meet prospective partners, address people etc. Shy people tend to avoid such situations that thus become a habit, and ultimately lead to depression.
- Shyness treatment can inhibit basic self-expression that is so much required for the human mind to feel liberated and free. When self-expression is bottled up, resentment, discontentment, disenchantment, and depression brew in the psyche.
- Shyness that has aggravated in an individual can make the person a loner. Loners are most dangerous, because a lone mind is also a devils workshop.
