Self Help Tips For Avoiding Stress

Stress is mainly the result of faulty coping mechanism adopted by us. External factors like work pressure, constant tension and worry about finance, household responsibilities, strain of overwork, conflicts in professional or personal life can be some causes of stress. However, if we can handle these triggering agents well, stress can be reduced.

Stop worrying. It is a major source of stress. Troubles, pressures, conflicts are all a part of life. As much as we do not like them, we cannot wish them away. Worrying will not solve the problem, but will compound it and create stress. Rather tackle problems coolly.

Do not have knee jerk reactions to anything in life. Knee jerk reactions are taken due to panic, anxiety, nervousness and stress arising out of the problem or issue. Even implementing a knee jerk reaction (solution) creates stress because we try to achieve too much in too short time.

Break free. It is really easy to get addicted to worries and problems. We brood about it to no end and yet be left with no solutions. However, brooding creates tension, frustration, hopelessness, fear, insecurity and stress. Put a full stop. Disconnect from matters spinning in your head.

Be realistic. Do not give any matter more attention than what it deserves. Do not be afraid of failures. Failing is not the end, there may be many more opportunities waiting for you.

Invest time in yourself. Do not neglect yourself and your needs. Listen to the signals of your mind and body. When it repels against something (say working too much, attending a social event etc), listen to it. You can be a bit self centered and do what you feel like. This is the best way to manage stress.

Be a free spirit. Do not tie down yourself due to the restrictions and limitations placed by others. Do what you feel committed towards, what matters most to you, what you feel inspires, motivates and energizes you.
