Self Help Methods for Overcoming Stress

There are some very simple and effective self help methods for overcoming stress. Some techniques are also less time consuming, and helps you to wind off easily even in a situation where there is a time constraint.

For those who do not have back to back schedule and can afford the time for stress releasing activities, there are many avenues like sports, camps, adventure tours, a late night long drive or a fun movie.

Sports like swimming, badminton, tennis are great stress buster. A leisurely walk on a beach or seaside, jogging in a garden or cycling are activities that can reduce the stress and induce a relaxed and calm state of mind.

Watching a comic movie/serial or reading books, dancing, hearing music, playing a musical instrument are also great stress busters.

For people running short of time, you can use simple techniques of 10-15 minutes to provide some relief. One of the best ways is to deep breathe. Sit back comfortably in a quiet corner and concentrate on your breathing. Slow down and relax with every breath.

You can even sit back and repeat the word ‘relax’, ‘calm down’, ‘peace’ in your mind. Concentrate on these words as you say it and do not be in hurry to get the result. If you hurry, it will create more stress.

A power nap of 15-20 minutes can be extremely beneficial to beat stress. Lie down on a comfortable, dark room. Repeat a calming rhythm in your mind or repeat the word ‘sleep’ in your mind. This will induce sleep and give you a very refreshed and energized feeling when you wake up.

You can also overcome stress by watching a funny video or baby video. It takes away your mind from the stressing events, and creates a light mood.

Another way of overcoming stress is by eating something that you crave for at that moment. Looking at greenery or cutting vegetables can be a stress reliever. Holding a baby in your arms can also beat stress.
