Scared of Falling Ill?
Some of us may be very conscious of our health, fearing that we could fall prey to any kind of illness and may go through lot of pain and suffering. You may think twice before entering a pool, get anxious and tensed when you are in a polluted environment, may hurry to cross a lane that is filthy, may wash your hands rigorously on contact with any object that is accessible for common use, may think twice before going on a picnic to adventurous place, may fear eating food from a stall and so on.
This kind of paranoid fear about falling ill can be mentally exhausting and distressing. You may be so obsessed with the fear of falling ill that you may control your lifestyle and behavior, guard yourself and be ever worried about your safety. This can also lead to hallucinations, and the power of mental thinking (that you are ill) can actually create some symptoms of illness.
The fear may be irrational; you may know it but just may not be able to expose yourself because of that persistent feeling of being attacked by illness. This fear can be because of your past experiences. You may have experienced that whenever you go for a tour you fall sick invariably, that your health is not good and suddenly you fall ill, you feel dizzy suddenly, and this may take a deep root in the mind.
Apart from your personal experience, the experience of others may haunt you as well, creating doubt and fear that the same thing may happen to you too. For example, seeing/hearing about people developing heartache suddenly, involuntary spasms, convulsions, falling fatally ill without any symptoms, sudden discovery of life threatening illness can make you feel that this can happen to you too.
These personal and external experiences may create a paranoid state and obsession about being extra careful and over cautious to prevent similar things from happening to you.
