Relaxation Through Music

Music is known to have a therapeutic effect on mental health conditions like depression, perpetual dull mood, morose feeling, stress, tension, worry, insecurity, restlessness or agitated state of mind.

Music calms the mind and relaxes the nerves and muscles that get pressurized due to stress, tension or worry. Music can have a healing effect depending upon the kind of music you prefer. Some people prefer to hear pop or fast music while some of us may prefer light, soft music for relief.

Listening to music that appeals to you most can be helpful. In times of stress, it may help you to play cheerful and fun filled music for example, pop music, rock, jazz, country music or music that has a feel of celebration and happiness to it.

Listening to soft music can also help you to relax the tension and exhaustion, by calming you down and slowing down the movements, breathing and inducing a calm and peaceful state. Old classical songs or romantic songs can just do the trick.

Instrumental music or soul music can also be helpful as it engages the mind and takes it off the thoughts and worries that cause stress. Due to the absence of words or lyrics it allows you to free your imagination and release the pent up feelings.

You may also take the help of spiritual music or devotional music if you find relief in that. Listening to chants or mantras (for example, OM chants) in a closed, silent, dark room can help you to release the negative feelings, thoughts or emotions and gain positive energy and renewed and better levels of stamina. Worship songs may also help you to regain the loss of peace and contentment.

Playing a musical instrument yourself can also help you to de-stress. You may play songs already known to you or explore with your instrument and form your own music.
