Reducing Hypertension
Hypertension can cause restlessness, increased heartbeat, palpitations, constant flow of thoughts, rising blood pressure, feeling of constriction and other physical and mental conditions.
An imbalanced lifestyle could be a cause for hypertension. Constant pressures of work, lack of adequate rest and sleep, stress due to travelling, meeting deadlines, domestic commitments etc can lead to increased stress and reduced activities for physical and mental fitness.
Taking off time for relaxation and calming down yourself when you feel that you are hitting a state of hypertension is important. Relaxation helps you to unwind and reduced the stress and pent up feeling.
Relaxation can be achieved by physical fitness exercises and also by disciplining the mind. Exercises like jogging, brisk walking, swimming or cycling early in the morning can reduce the strained feeling and provide relief and relaxed feeling. It also makes you active and energetic.
Achieving inner calm and peace is also important for controlling and preventing hypertension. Yoga exercises or meditation can be a great reliever for the mind. It reduces the restlessness, agitation, running thoughts, mental exhaustion and helps in calming the mind.
It prevents the loss of mental energy on unnecessary and unproductive thoughts and helps in focusing and concentrating at the time of need. It also replaces the negative thoughts by positive feelings and energy.
Repeating certain chats, deep breathing or relaxation caused by visual imagery methods are easy ways of reducing hypertension. Listening to a mantra or reverberating chants, or soothing sounds like blow of breeze, chirping of birds or flow of water can also induce a relaxed and calm state of mind.
Eating a balanced diet is also important. Avoid eating deep fried, oily, spicy food. Restrict consumption of meat/mutton. Eat more of raw vegetable salads and fresh fruits. Reducing smoking and alcohol intake is also beneficial. Drink plenty of water.
Keep a balanced mind and take short breaks to feel energized and refreshed.
