Reasons for Drastic Weight Loss

Weight loss could be a conscious effort taken by some of us for fitness or health reasons; while some of us may suffer drastic weight loss in a short span of time. Sudden loss of weight is a matter of concern and does not indicate that a person is fit and healthy just because of the weight loss achieved. 

One of the reasons could be poor weight loss regime followed by people in haste to loose weight. For example, some of us may go in for strict dieting pattern where there would be a tendency to skip meals, eat minimum quantity of food, consume only fruits or raw vegetables or purge the food eaten etc.

Coupled with this, a person may take up vigorous exercising like hitting the gym for hours, walking for hours, taking up exhausting outdoor work. Compromised food intake and vigorous work out will lead to drastic weight loss.

This is not a healthy sign as it may lead to deficiency of essential minerals, vitamins and nutrients that are necessary to carry out day to day functions. There may be a feeling of dullness, fatigue, exhaustion, tiredness, drowsiness, feeling sapped, depleted and pale appearance.

Drastic weight loss may be experienced due to the stress of daily life and hectic schedule. This may be seen among professionals who put in too many hours at work, work overtime, do not supplement their body with food at regular time intervals, skip meals due to pressure and stress of deadlines, do not get enough time for rest and relaxation, and have to travel extensively.

Their diet pattern suffers as they are not able to stick to their meal time, may not feel like eating due to tension and stress, may work at odd hours to suit the requirements of clients based in other countries. This alters their food and eating habits. Consistently following such a lifestyle is likely to lead to weight loss in a very short period.

Weight loss could also be a result of poor mental health. A person who is always under stress, is worried and tensed, cannot cope with pressures and frustrations of daily life and feels depressed is likely to eat less and experience drastic weight loss.
