Psychosis

Psychosis is a mental disorder marked by disorderly thoughts and emotions. These thoughts are on most occasions surreal or in other words marked by a tremendous variation from worldly reality.

Psychotic people oscillate between extremes in showing emotions. Most times they are plagued with negative and contraband thoughts.

People suffering from psychosis will tell you about experiences that may be categorized as absurd or even lunatic. Most of the thoughts and beliefs are contrary to real world beliefs. The personality of psychotic people will vary erratically, as they show no signs of any consistency in their character.

What causes psychosis?

-         It might be due t o substance abuse or excessive drinking or even due to a severe crisis that has taken place and left a deep psychological scar.

-         It could be due to abnormal cell growth in the brain or in other words a brain tumor that results in alternation of normal thinking and reasoning.

-         It can also come from an accident that hurt the head, and in the process the brain to a certain degree. It can also happen to people who have epileptic seizures.

A person affected with psychosis may show the following behaviors…

-         An increased emotional stance towards everything. This person may start crying passionately if you he or she has won a small game. The person might perceive it to be an Olympian effort, and can show absurd behaviors like keeping telling about this to friends and family in a pompous fashion.
This person will also show irrational emotional behaviors like crying over a weather report that predicts a gale storm in some ocean, or excessive laughing and excitement over a small comedy of error that might have happened.

-         A total loss of orientation in everyday activities. Examples are: forgetting routine directions, unable to think sensibly in normal situations, inability to put two and two together to find out contexts and situations.

-         A debilitating anxiety that spans morbid thoughts and even suicidal tendencies. Feelings of non-existing dangers, or irrational thoughts of suspense.

-         A belief system that is unjustifiable as normal. For example, believing that trees at night are home to devils, and having firm conviction in the same without considering the need to question such a school of belief system.
