Preventing Indigestion
Indigestion can be caused due to improper eating habits and faulty lifestyle. An unbalanced diet, odd hours of eating, improper quantity of food consumed can cause indigestion and a queasy sensation.
To avoid indigestion, eat light but eat right. Eat 3-4 small meals through the day rather than a single large one. A heavy meal is difficult to digest.
Eat a filling breakfast, as it will get digested due to the movements of the body throughout the day.
Eating a heavy meal at night is unadvisable as there is lack of any physical activity and the digestion process may slow down.
Do not eat at odd hours. It is also preferable to have an early dinner so that the body gets adequate time to digest food. A late night dinner, say at 11 or 12 may be difficult to digest.
Limit the food intake. Do not overeat. It creates a pressure on the digestive system and may lead to discomfort.
Eat a balanced meal. Include plenty of raw vegetables and fruits in your food since they contain dietary fibre. Eating green leafy vegetables, tomato, onion, cucumber helps the digestion process. Increasing the roughage content in the food by eating fibre rich food, whole grains or cereals (instead of rice) can help in digestion.
Fruits like papaya, banana or jackfruit also help in the digestion process.
Avoid eating pizzas, burgers, deep fried items or excessively spicy food. Limiting the intake of meat or beef, or skipping it entirely will also help the digestive process.
Do not eat till you are full to the brim, or overshoot your capacity.
Drinking a glass of buttermilk with black pepper powder will be beneficial.
Including ginger in curry is also beneficial as it is known to boost digestion.
Do not immediately lie down after meals. Keep a span of atleast one hour before you eat and sleep. Similarly, do not undertake heavy exercises or brisk walking after meals. Keep a gap of atleast one hour between eating and working out.
