Precautions in Diabetes
Diet plays an important role in keeping sugar of a diabetic person under control. Try not to eat sweet foodstuff in which sugar is involved. For instance, sugar, jaggery, toffee, chocolate, pastry and ice-cream, etc. Fruits that contain more of natural sugar must be taken in less quantity like apple, banana, mango & grapes, etc.
Vegetables such as potato, sweet potato or any other vegetables which is known to have good amount of starch must be taken in moderation. Pure ghee, vegetable oil, coconut oil, butter, cream and cheese must not be taken in total quantity of more than half kilogram in a month.
Tea, coffee, shakes, juice also have sugar content so use them rarely. Food items such as pasta, white bread doesn’t appear sweet in taste but they also contain sugar. Remember that carbohydrates present in bread, pulses and fruits turn into sugar after digestion by the body.
During pregnancy, two to five percent ladies becomes diabetic that gets treated automatically after delivery. In the first three months of pregnancy, if the sugar of the mother is more, than some birth problems can occur in a child. In next three months, there’s a possibility of child being mentally weak if sugar level is not normal.
In the last three months of pregnancy, the size of child will be more than normal and delivery becomes difficult. Ladies suffering from diabetes must conceive only when their sugar is in control. When such ladies conceive they must taken insulin injection rather than taking medicines which can harm a child.
Diabetes can affect a child also. However, children mainly suffers from Type 1 diabetes. Some of the symptoms visible in a child suffering from diabetes are frequent pain in stomach and leg, unusual hunger pangs or weakness not normal for children of that age and frequent urination in the night with constant coughing.
In such cases blood sugar test becomes a necessity. Children are administered dosages of insulin injections not medicines because children are not able to look after themselves. But make sure that as a parent you don’t create panic among such children as it can affect them psychologically.
It is advised to take special care of aged people for the reason that in old age, the level of sugar can dip suddenly. In such cases there are strong chances that elderly people can faint or fall. Low blood sugar in old age is the result of taking double dosages of sugar medicines, exertion and inconsistency in eating food.
