Overcoming Irrational Fear
A person may suffer from irrational fear of various events, like, fear of drowning, fear of being killed, fear of sudden death, of assault, demons, being killed under a vehicle etc. The fear could just be fear of unknown, i.e the person may just be gripped by fear but may not know what exactly the fear is regarding.
This kind of fear caused by insecurity, anxiety, exposure to various media sources, or driven from within can have a paralyzing effect on a person. It can create acute panic attack or anxiety. Overcoming this fear is essential so that the person can live in peace, security and happiness.
Many times fear is created by an external source. Say for example, reading about something in the media, watching movies about demonic forces, hearing humours about ghosts or hearing about unnatural death etc. When you come across such stories or movies, change the channel or the conversation.
When you hear about sudden death or death in a harsh way, it can create fear about existence (your own or that of your near and dear ones). This can throw you into a state of panic when they leave for work, do not return on time, are driving, travelling etc. This anxiety can cause severe tension and worry.
Do not believe that what has happened to others will happen to you. Do not believe that you or your loved ones can die at any point and you must do everything you can to save them. Do not be occupied with thoughts of death and disease.
Spiritual growth will help you fight your fear and insecurity. Practicing yoga or meditation will help you to replace the negative thoughts with positive, peaceful ones. Listening to ‘OM’ chants also will clear your mind and reduce the feeling of panic or fear in your mind and heart.
Develop faith and hope in God or whichever power you believe in. You will derive strength by believing in these powers to keep you safe and secure.
