Morning Anxiety
Anxiety can catch up with you anytime…during the day, late evenings, at night or in the mornings. Some people feel especially weakened in spirit and resilience in the mornings. They get anxiety attacks early in the morning that delineates them of the energy to handle the rest of the day.
Certain people find waking up in the morning the most dreadful of experiences. It is estimated that close to 7 million Americans suffer from morning anxiety.
Morning anxiety is a kind of panic disorder that is created in the mornings through forced or reluctant waking-up.
Some of it is fuelled by the lack of willingness to wake up in the morning. On most times when your sleep is disturbed you wake up feeling terribly anxious about the day. Stress is singled out as a major factor for people with morning anxiety. Stressed out people don’t get quality sleep during the night, and hence they try to ‘grab’ sleep. This grabbing-sleep tendency trickles on till the morning, and eventually the person will have to forcibly get up in the morning.
Why does morning anxiety happen?
- When one expects another void and mechanical day, that does not serve any purpose to answer the requests of the soul.
- Another lonely day, with no love in the horizon, or companionship and camaraderie to balm the essence of existence from the mundane.
- All these create a situation where the ‘feel-good’ factor is peeled away. So how does one shun morning anxiety into submission….here are some ways..
- Exercising can get you good sleep. A light jog in the late evenings will do wonders for your sleep. Even if you don’t sleep due to will, you will sleep due to tiredness. If you are still unable to sleep, then consult a doctor. A better option would be to have a brisk walk first thing you get up. If you have trouble dressing up in sport wear in the morning, dress up at night, so that in the morning you just have to wear your sneakers and take off.
- Eat a proper diet. Don’t gorge on junk food at late evenings. Junk food will make you more lethargic, and make your craving for more sleep in the mornings. Eat a balanced diet that is a combination of fruits and vegetables, like a mixed salad for example.
