Menstrual Care
Some teenagers or women experience a lot of discomfort during the monthly cycle. There may be irritability, short temper, restlessness, feeling of constriction, pain in the abdomen, cramps in stomach, aching legs, body pain, heaviness in the breast or pain in the breast. It creates considerable mental distress due to the constant feeling of pain, discomfort, sudden mood swings, dullness and exhausted feeling.
Some women may be just lucky to have no symptoms of physical or mental distress and may be able to cope with these days just as well as any other day. Some adolescents or women may be concerned about the days when the flow may be particularly heavy and they may feel very conscious and awkward due to fear of staining. The feeling of wetness may also cause discomfort and irritation.
Keeping yourself relaxed and calm will help you a lot to tide over difficult days. Deep breathing exercises or plainly concentrating on your breathing and slowing down will make you feel relaxed.
Take a break during these days. Do not stress out yourself or pile up work to be done during the cycle. The lesser stress and tension you take the better. Contrary to this, some women may get absorbed more into work so that their mind is diverted from the discomfort or pain.
Do not enter into physically demanding tasks. You may just do the daily routine things, and avoid more physical exertion. Limit vigorous exercising on these days.
Due to the pain or discomfort, you may feel like not eating; but you must eat the right food and at proper time intervals to prevent acidity. Acidity can cause nausea, burning sensation and add to your discomfort. Do not eat heavy meals; eat light food so that you do not feel uneasy or cramped.
Recreation, watching television or listening to songs may help to divert your mind and lessen irritability.
