Maintaining Long Distance Relationship
Long distance relationships could fizzle out if the couples are not in touch and lose interest in each other due to the distance. Continuation of the relationship despite the distance can be an indicator of the seriousness or strength of the relationship. Failure of the relationship due to distance could raise questions about the extent of commitment and interest the partners have in each other.
For some couples, meeting regularly, talking daily or being in touch is essential for the continuation of the relationship. If a distance is created either due to work reason, professional ambitions etc, the level of communication may drop, the interest in the partner may fade, the attraction to other available persons may increase, and the relationship may come to an end.
Losing the feel and connection with the partner could be a reason why long distance relationships may end. If there is not adequate level of sharing between the partners and exchange of thoughts, feelings and personal messages, the warmth and belongingness in the relationship may be lost.
It is preferable if partners can be in touch through telephones, email, text messages or online chatting so that the feel and presence of the partner still remains.
Managing long distance relationship also becomes easier if the partners have known each other and been in the relationship for a long time. With more involvement and commitment towards each other, the possibility of losing love or feelings for the partner due to distance is minimized.
Partners who have got into a relationship recently and have gone away to other country or state may have to invest more time and effort into the relationship to maintain the level of interest, sincerity and attraction towards each other.
If the partners make an official commitment or confirm the status of the relationship (formally declare the partner as a love interest, would be wife/husband etc) then keeping the relationship on could be easier as the relationship has been confirmed and committed to.
