A lot of terror has been created due to the spread of contagious H1N1 Influenza which is also known as Swine flu. Day by day, new developments are being reported with regard to this menace. Though the virus has spread in air but we can still contain the effects it can cause on human population by boosting the immune system of our body and taking simple yet effective precautions for the safety of our health.
In putting a stop to the spread of this extremely transmittable influenza, the role of masks has been greatly emphasised. Its not that every one of you have to wear masks, only those people in whom the symptoms of swine flu are visible. Besides this, people who come in close contact with the current or suspected patients are advised to wear masks. Before going to any crowded place such as market or cinema hall, always wear protective mask. Doctors, nurses and other staff members in the hospital must wear these protective masks. Moreover, people who travel by air-conditioned buses or trains for the sake of prevention must use them. For the prevention of swine flu, normal mask is not helpful however a special type of mask called 3 layer surgical masks can be worn for four hours at a stretch and N-95 mask can be used for eight hours.
By wearing 3 layer surgical masks, a person can remain safe from the virus by up to 70 to 80% and by using N-95 mask the safety percentage increases to 95%. But the masks will only be helpful when they are worn in correct manner. Wear a mask in such a way that it completely covers mouth and nose because virus can also attack from sides. If you are not able to procure either 3 layers or N-95 mask, then take that much amount of muslin cloth by which you can create four level of layers.
Keep in mind that whenever you or someone else coughs or sneezes, tissue paper or handkerchief must be used and after their usage they are thrown in the dustbin. After an interval of every two hours, try to wash your hands with an antiseptic soap or solution. Maintain a distance of one meter from the patient. You must be able to diagnose the initial symptoms of H1N1 Influenza which are as follows running nose, fierce sneezing, and blockage in nose, feeling of pain or stiffness in muscles, severe headache and high fever which doesn’t subsidizes even after the intake of medicines.
People who have been affected and those who have not been affected by swine flu must also take care of the type of food they are consuming. Try to eat fresh food cooked from home and avoid eating stale food. Drink lots of water and eat fresh fruits and green vegetables. All types of pulses can be taken.
