Know About Blood Pressure

Heart is the main source of supply of pure blood to our entire body. Different organs in the body receive their supply of blood through arteries. To make blood available with pressure to the entire human system, heart contracts and comes back to normal position sixty to seventy times in one minute normally. When heart contracts, blood gets into the arteries with maximum pressure and this condition is called systolic pressure. When after contraction, heart comes back to normal position, the pressure of blood in arteries comes to minimum and this process is called diastolic pressure. Both systolic and diastolic pressure in totality is called blood pressure.

Blood pressure remains under constant variation. When we get up after our sleep, generally the pressure of blood is low. When we undertake any physical activity such as walking fast, running or tension then it tends to increase. High BP is a silent disease which means that in most of the people who suffers from it doesn’t show any of its symptoms. In such cases, regular monitoring is necessary.

Effects of High Blood Pressure

–The risk of heart related ailments, such as heart attack increases.
–Chances of brain stroke increases.
–Possibility of kidney failure.
–Eye vision gets blurred.

When to get blood pressure monitored?

If you observe any of the symptoms in yourself or in other person, immediately get your blood pressure monitored. If you experience heaviness in head, burning sensation in eyes, less amount of urine, feeling as if the head is spinning, severe headache, giddiness and disturbed sleep, it means that you need to immediately get yourself monitored. Otherwise also, people who are above the 35 years of age, have family history of high blood pressure, pregnant ladies and those who have diabetes, heart or kidney problem must also get their BP monitored regularly.

As per the new recommendation of W.H.O, kids above the age of three must be placed in the category of routine check up for blood pressure. Nevertheless, if the child is overweight or underweight needs to be placed in intensive care unit immediately after birth, has any heart, lung or breathing ailments then the child’s blood pressure must be monitored by the doctor himself.
