Is Your Partner Unable to Forget His Ex?

August 17, 2009

Partners in a relationship do discuss about past relationships, how it was, what was the best part of it, why did things not work out etc. The first relationship or romantic experience may have been really special and unforgettable, however, people learn to move on when things do not work out positively.

Some people may regret that the relationship did not succeed but may form new relationship, as they cannot have the ex-partner back. However, they may sometimes brood about how different things might have been with the ex, is there any way they can still get back etc, and this may be quiet alarming to the other partner.

You may feel that the partner may leave if he finds out that he can patch up with the ex, you may feel that you wont have a satisfying relationship, the partner will never be able to forget the ex, he does not value and love you as much as the ex, he will be dissatisfied with you and so on.

If your partner draws frequent comparisons between you and the ex, remembers her a lot, talks about it with yearning and regret, then it probably means that he needs more time to resolve issues with himself. He is not ready to form a new meaningful relationship because he carries a lot of baggage and feelings from the past relationship.

Tell him that you think he needs more time. Tell him that you are not leaving him but also not committing to him. You will be in touch but right now you must not hurry to establish a romantic relationship, as the partner is not ready. Unless there is some acceptance and moving over the past relationship from the partner’s side, it may be difficult for you to have a rewarding relationship with him.

Not being able to forget the ex is all right. However, resolving the negative emotions, feeling of loss, hurt, anger etc over a period of time is essential so that new beginnings can be made.
