Immunotherapy

Immunotherapy deals with manipulating your immune system to provide desired results. There are two kinds of immunotherapy:

- Activation Immunotherapy
- Suppression Immunotherapy

Activation Immunotherapy
This type of immunotherapy is intended to accentuate or strengthen the body’s immune system.

Suppression Immunotherapy
This type of immunotherapy is intended to stifle the body’s immunity response to allergens.

Bio-scientists have developed substances that are a combination of natural and man-made makes for immunotherapy.

Immunotherapy is completely related to our body’s defense system and reaction that is designed to ward off or fight diseases and infections. Having a sound immune system helps prevent many illnesses. The immune system has been found to play an active part in preventing or fighting cancerous cells. Researchers have found that by fortifying the immune system, cancer slows down in the body.

Cancerous cells turn themselves into tumors, and the body’s immune system determines the spread-rate of tumors. The immune system does have the potency to fight against tumor, but it has to be given more weapons to do so. Only more research and evolution in science can find answers to make the body’s immune system naturally fight cancer, rather than using chemotherapy, and surgery.

Immunotherapy has been advocated to people with allergies, allergic rhinitis, and asthma. Here the immune system is shaped up in a way as to restrict the outbreak of the symptoms, thus providing a kind of symptomatic suppression. This form of immunotherapy falls under suppression immunotherapy, where the body’s hyper-response is modulated with a more customized immune system.

Immunotherapy has also been found to be highly effective in treatment of allergic conjunctivitis. Allergic conjunctivitis is a condition where the conjunctiva becomes infected with allergens and causes the eyes to be read and swollen. It can even cause blindness. Although short-term measures are treating with eye drops, these only provide fleeting solution to the problem.

Immunotherapy settles excessive allergic response of the body to allergens like dust, mites, pollen, and insects.

The method of immunotherapy is by general vaccination that targets to stimulate the immune system. Patients are advised to continue immunotherapy for up to five years. More number of patients are realizing that immunotherapy offers benefits that stay.
