Ill Effects Of High Stress Jobs

High stress jobs can create a lot of mental conditions or physical ailments in the long run if the stress level is not minimized. People in high stress jobs need to be more careful about their stress level, and tension and pressure created due to daily demands from them. They must balance their professional and personal life, and take proactive steps for fitness and well-being.

The constant pressure, level of performance expected, consistency in functioning can make them feel restless, worried, tensed and alert at all times. He/she may not be able to relax, unwind, detach from the work, take out time for relaxation and recreation, may feel guilty and worried if he/she tries to have a good time. They may also be preoccupied with deadlines and schedules.

Such a person may lose peace of mind, and may feel exhausted, dull, inactive or hyperactive. The constant flow of thoughts can lead to tension, restlessness and delirium like condition. It can also create high blood pressure or low blood pressure due to lack of sleep, compromising on food and exertion.

There may be significant impact on the social life and disturbance in the family life too. He/she may not be able to spend enough time with family, may start bringing work at home, may compromise on time spent with family, make excuses to skip family reunion and functions and may get isolated and alienated from everyone.

Marital conflicts could develop or children may feel detached due to the absence or low level of engagement with the person. The person could start feeling lonely, unsupported, unloved, not cared for, and neglected, as family members may not be able to cope with his/her preoccupation with work.

There are also chances of burnout due to over involvement with work. The person may start developing disinterest in work, will feel repelled and frustrated by the work, lose enthusiasm, may slowly cut off and withdraw, may refuse to take responsibility as he/she may feel very trapped and revolted by the work.
