How to Prevent Exhaustion

Exhaustion could be a result of our daily stressful life, the burden of professional and personal responsibilities, due to tension and pressure of deadlines, hectic schedule, stressing travel etc. It gets aggravated if there is absence of adequate relaxation, lack of sleep, neglect of food and nutritional requirements or faulty lifestyle.

Acute stressors must be avoided so that exhaustion does not set in. Daily stress and pressure should also be neutralized so that it does not build up and lead to negative health consequences like weakness, exhaustion, fatigue, low blood sugar level, fainting, unconsciousness and so on.

Rest adequately. Being aware of the signals of your body is very essential. When your mind feels overworked and taxed, if you are unable to concentrate, if your body feels tired, if there is body ache, feeling of weakness, it is a sign that exhaustion has set in and you must take off time for rest and relaxation.

Sleep adequately. It beats most of the stress and feeling of exhaustion. It is also a natural way to relax, recharge and re-energize yourself. Sleeping for at least 6-7 hours daily is a must. Taking power naps of say 15-30 minutes during the day will also make you feel refreshed and energized for carrying out your work.

Regulate your food habits and follow a consistent pattern. Do not skip meals, go in for starvation or dieting. Ensure that the nutritional requirements of the body are met by taking balanced wholesome meals comprising vitamins, essential minerals, proteins etc.

Eat 3-4 small meals throughout the day rather than a single lavish meal. This will not only help in digestion but also constantly energize you and give you the stamina for going on. Intake of fruits will help in instantly energizing the body as it contains natural sugar like glucose. Munching on dry fruits like raisins, cashew nuts, peanuts also boost energy level.

Manage your time well; do not procrastinate. Avoid piling up work for the last moment and then stretching yourself and putting in extra hours for completion of the work. This is sure to create stress and lead to exhaustion. Avoid taking on more responsibilities than what you can handle.

Devote time for fitness activities or hobbies everyday. Deep breathing exercises and meditation are known to have great benefits in combating physical and mental exhaustion.
