How to help your stressed husband

Husbands do carry high levels of responsibilities and get stressed due to the pressures of domestic requirements as well as professional expectations. They go through situations of stress, anxiety, frustration frequently, and this has a negative impact on the relationship with the wife.

Many a times the burden men carry leads to stress and it culminates in introverted behaviour, distracted frame of mind, lack of intimacy between husband and wife and can give rise to misunderstandings in marriage.

As a wife you can contribute a lot in helping the husband to deal with stress in a better way by being the supporting and understanding companion and a source of strength. Being matured, considerate and empathetic about the situation will help your husband and your relationship too.

A wife needs to be sensitive to these realities of the husband and kind of burdens he goes through day after day. Try to keep the atmosphere at home free of tension, or underlying strain or disharmony.

Nagging behaviour, frequent demands and complaints from the wife is likely to push the husband more into isolation.

The environment at home should be warm and welcoming. Keep the rooms neat and tidy and let there be a semblance of calmness and relaxation about the house when the husband steps in. Be careful to keep the room orderly and organized if he is an organized and disciplined person. Shabbiness may just put him off.

Take initiative in cheering him up; however, be alert towards his mood. Welcome him with a cup of coffee/tea and treat him with good food. Food is a good stress buster and making food of his choice could be a way of lightening his mood and helping him to relax and enjoy.

Avoid demanding his time and attention. Avoid complaining or nagging him if he is under pressure and not able to devote his usual time and attention to you. Your support, light heartedness and co-operation will take off some pressures and relieve him.

Give him space and time. Don’t push him to change his behaviour or complain about his morose mood; but express your care and concern.
