Home Remedies for Common Cold

We all have been a victim of common cold at one time or other. It’s a viral infection with which we suffer mostly during unexpected change in season. It can occur in children as well as adults. Some people have perennial cold that lasts throughout the year. Causes of common cold are exposure to virus, dust, cold; lack of sleep, sudden change in temperature, low vitality, fatigue and other irritating inhalation.

Symptoms of common cold are running nose, soreness of throat, congestion of nasal passages, sneezing, headache and chill.

Home Remedies for Common Cold

Take a mixture of 1 tsp each of ginger juice and honey twice in a day (once in morning and once in evening). This is a very useful home remedy for common cold. Another remedy is to drink a tea prepared by adding 1tbsp of pepper powder, pinch of turmeric and little sugar in a cup of milk.

A very common remedy is to mix juice squeezed out of one lemon and honey in warm water. Drink this mixture once or twice daily. Another excellent remedy to treat common cold is to crush rock salt and 3-4 pieces of black pepper together into fine consistency. Now mix this in warm water and drink the solution when it is still warm.

Remedy for people suffering from perennial cold is, take 1 milliliter of extract of basil (tulsi), 1 milliliter of garlic juice, 1 gram of black pepper powder and mix them and put this mixture in a glass of water. Drink this solution twice a day (once in morning and once in evening) and continue to drink this solution for two months, without break.

Take some seeds of Bishop’s weed and grind them. Now add onion’s juice into the seeds. Rub this paste on your body. It helps in relieving the cold. It should be done twice in a day.

Prepare a large amount of powder out of dried ginger. With ghee as binder, prepare pellets of this powder. Each pellet should be about 30-40 gm in mass. Eat one in the morning and one in the evening.

Mix 4 parts of unrefined sugar and 1 part of rock salt. Every night, before going to bed, take one teaspoon of this mixture with warm water or milk. This is very effective remedy for common cold.
