Home Remedies for Acidity
Acidity is the excess production of acid by the gastric glands of the stomach. An acid, called hydrochloric acid is secreted by stomach which helps in digesting processes. Enzymes like Pepsin are further secreted by this acid which breaks down the food for easily digestion. When the acid level increases from normal level of acid that is required, it results in acidity.
Symptoms of Acidity
Burning sensation in the chest behind the breast-bone, this condition is known as Heartburn, dyspepsia i.e. aching pain upper abdomen, sour belches, nausea, puking, bitter taste in mouth and passing off wind.
Causes of Acidity
Highly intake of alcohol, heavy meal, weakness of valve between stomach and food pipe, excess acid secretion, highly spicy food, irregular food habits, tension and stress, fried food and Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome.
Home Remedies for Acidity
Make it a routine to have fresh mint juice daily. Before meals, have a mixture of two teaspoons, each of apple cider vinegar and honey in a glass of water. Another remedy for acidity is eating ginger. It’s very effective.
You can chew leaves of basil (tulsi) to get relief from acidity. Another simple remedy for acidity is eating banana daily along with watermelon and cucumber. Place some piece of jiggery (gur) in your mouth and suck it slowly. Repeat it after every hour, till you get relief from acidity.
Another remedy is to drink a mixture of 1 tablespoon of chebulic myrobalan juice and 1 tablespoon of amla (Indian gooseberry) juice. Consuming milk and milk products help in relieving acidity. Eat almonds to get relief from heartburn. Even having cold milk helps in this purpose.
Drink water early in the morning and at least 8-10 glasses of water daily. It will help in controlling acidity. Consuming clove and cardamom also helps in preventing acidity. Along with this another remedy for acidity is to have 1-2 tablespoons of white vinegar. You can have yogurt for immediate relief from acidity.
Another effectual remedy for acidity is to mix equal amount of coriander and ginger pulp and eat it. You can drink 4-5 times coconut water to get relief from acidity.
Avoid frequent use of aspirin and disprin. Also avoid raw salad of onion and radish. Do not give too much gap between your meals. Cut down the intake of fried and spicy foods and pickles also. Don’t have too much of alcohol and also don’t smoke too much.
