Healthy Breakfast Options
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. The key to having an energetic and fit body is to provide the body with essential nutrients at regular time intervals. Many nutrition experts suggest that having small meals throughout the day is better than having a large meal once.
Breakfast should never be skipped. The body remains devoid of any nutrition for almost 8-10 hours, i.e. the time between eating dinner and waking up at morning. Skipping breakfast can cause tiredness, exhaustion, lack of energy, hunger pangs, dizziness or even acidity.
Having a healthy and nourishing breakfast can energize you and keep you fit and active. It also prevents hunger at odd hours or tendency to munch on oily, unhealthy food.
A breakfast should comprise of non-fatty, non-oily, low cholesterol food, so that you do not feel heavy and lethargic. A breakfast comprising cereals, whole grains, fruits or protein-giving food can be healthy.
A bowl of corn flakes with milk and garnishing with banana, apple and dry fruits can be a good breakfast. This is because it is a low fat food. Apple gives health, and banana improves digestion. Dry fruits like cashews, raisins, almond etc are rich sources of energy, and improve memory.
Similarly a bowl of oatmeal with milk and garnishing can be a good option.
Another option is to eat sandwich with plenty of raw vegetables. You can use slices of tomato, cucumber, onions, and baked potato and beetroot to stuff between the bread slices. You can make a home made bread spread by blending ginger, garlic and tomato. You may use brown bread or whole grain bread rather than white bread.
This breakfast is healthy as it is low in calories, rich in dietary fibre, helps the digestion process and is filling. It is tasty to eat and is also less time consuming.
Eating boiled eggs, especially the egg whites are beneficial. Eating baked or roasted items are better than those cooked in oil.
You can accompany the breakfast with a glass of fresh fruit juice (say lemon-ginger/buttermilk/tomato/carrot or coconut juice). Or you can drink a glass of milk/tea/coffee.
