Health Care for New Mothers

When a woman becomes mother for the first time, there’s an awesome sense of startling joy. There is also a possibility that a new mother might suffer from post-natal depression often termed as baby blue because of changes in the level of hormones. Health of mother after delivery of the child is far more crucial for the reason that baby is dependent on mother for food and liquid. In first few months after the delivery, mothers often complaint about their depression and angst. There is nothing to worry about as new mothers also take time to adjust to this new relationship and build an emotional bond with the baby. In the meantime, body of the mother also adjust itself to the changed biological environment.

Life post delivery can be quite a daunting task but with the passage of time, everything will fall into place naturally. Nevertheless, certain things need to be taken care of as a precautionary measure since the health of an infant depends totally on the well-being of a mother.

The mother must take care of her diet as whatever she drinks or eat will pass onto her baby in some form or the other. At this stage one should double the amount of protein, green vegetables, and fruits intake and should also drink sufficient quantities of liquids.

Few days after delivery of the child, start doing some light stretching exercises consistently which will certainly improve your level of fitness. Fitness exercises will also help in reducing the weight that a new mother might gain after delivery. In case of caesarean delivery, necessary precautions must be exercised.

If the mother has got any stitches, she must make sure to take care of them until they heal completely. So, therefore, personal cleanliness becomes more than necessary. Even while the mother is attending to baby, she must spare some time for herself and indulge in activities that she likes the most. Family members should also step in and lend their support to reduce stress in her life.

Follow the schedule which had been set for the baby and never attempt to do any activity which might disturb it. Advice from women who have already undergone such an experience will also prove effective. If the mental health of a woman doesn’t improve even after considerable amount of time post-delivery then there is no harm in taking professional help.
