Health Benefits of Carrot
Carrot is known to be an ideal vegetable for maintaining and enhancing eyesight. Carrot is a rich source of vitamin A, and regular consumption of carrots can help in preventing eye related ailments like poor eyesight, dimness, strain while reading etc. This is important especially for children as many kids today are using spectacles due to poor eye care steps.
Similarly youngsters who are so exposed to computers need proper diet so as to neutralize or limit the impact the harmful rays from the computer have on the eyes. Eating carrots on a daily basis will also help in maintaining eyesight during old age.
A very important benefit of carrot is that it has very low proportions of sugar; therefore it can be safely consumed by people affected by high blood sugar level or even diabetes. Eating carrots will keep the sugar level under control.
It does not contain too much of fat or cholesterol either. Therefore it helps in keeping the cholesterol level under control and also lowers it. Low levels of sodium also make it a safe food for people suffering from hypertension.
Further, carrot is rich in dietary fiber. Dietary fibre plays an important role in aiding the process of digestion as it improves the roughage content. It helps in metabolism and can be helpful at times of constipation.
Carrots have anti oxidant properties and calories too and help in preventing blockage of arteries. It helps in the long run as it prevents cardio vascular problems and heart ailments.
Carrots can be eaten in raw form and boiled form too. However, the benefits of eating them in natural raw form far outweigh the benefits derived through any other form. Carrot slices can be used as salad along with meals. You can also grate carrots and onion, add yogurt to it, and use it as salad.
Carrot based sweets or other preparations can also be made; however, the benefits derived from them will be lesser as the nutrients present in carrot may get lost when it is cooked or boiled.
