Handling Romantic Relationship

Romantic relationships form with interest and enthusiasm. There is a newness to it, and an effort and commitment to make things work.  Initially all romantic relationships flourish as the couple try to adjust themselves to the partner, try to be understanding and sensitive to gain trust, allow more space to the partner, do not dominate, avoid fights etc.

After a while, couples may drift into stagnation or lack of interest or in a mode of conflict due to various reasons. They may feel that the spark is missing or may not feel as interested in the relationship as before. This can lead to conflict, fights, dissatisfaction and end of relationship.

To handle your relationship successfully, you have to take it slow and steady. This may be difficult to do due to excitement and enthusiasm of a new relationship. However, excessive indulgence initially may lead to deterioration of the relationship in future.

Do not rush into the relationship and make yourself a completely different person.  Do not show yourself to be the person you are not. Do not try desperately to be the person your partner wants you to be. Though you may succeed initially, you may not be able to change yourself always.

Take your time. Understand what you exactly feel. If you have mixed feelings, do not confess to the relationship as a romantic one. Do not hurry to give a label to the relationship unless you feel sure.

Realize that you are not the only person in your partner’s life. There are friends, family, colleagues and so on. You do not have an exclusive right on their time and life.  Do not make unreasonable demands like meeting everyday or talking for hours.

Be honest and forthright. Avoid playing games and keeping secrets.

Be what you are; it is best if your partner accepts you for what you are rather than for what you might be.
