Fruit of Folly

We all are aware of the benefits that are provided by fruits. To maximize the benefits, you should eat fruits in a right way to get the optimum nutrition. You can eat fruits any time but to obtain maximum nutrition, eat fruits in between the meals instead of having it after the meal. Reason being, after meals the stomach is busy to absorb carbohydrate and proteins, it has just ingested. If you will eat fruits after meal, stomach will not be able to absorb it efficiently.

When you will eat fruits in between the meals, at that time your stomach is not so much full, so they are digested and absorbed fully. Fruits have high water content and minerals. They help in replenish electrolytes and also prevent us from feeling exhausted.

The best way to eat fruits is including its skin and flesh just below the skin, if the skin is edible as it contains maximum fiber and minerals. Peeled off fruits does not have much nutrition. One of the reasons behind peeling off is pesticides that are present on the skin. If this is reason then don’t worry about it as washing fruits under running water are enough to get rid of pesticides.

You can consume fruits in form of fruit chaat with little bit of chaat masala. Don’t consume chaat masala much as it is high in salt. Adding a little lemon juice on the fruit is very good as it helps in absorption of all the nutrients. Avoid eating fruits with tea and caffeine rich drinks because it hampers the absorption of micro nutrients.

Earlier the availability of fruits used to depend on the season but now days, all fruits are available round the year. Don’t bother yourself to buy unseasonal fruits. If you are buying them for nutrition reason than its just wastage of money because of these fruits come from cold storage and its nutrition content has significantly decreased. Another reason to avoid unseasonal fruits is the chemicals used to preserve during storage which are not good for health.

Fresh fruits are always good source of nutrition. Eat fruits instead of juice is much better. Don’t eat fruits for breakfast. Your breakfast should be a good balance of carbohydrates, proteins and fruits. Eating fruits alone in breakfast, will definitely give you a glucose kick but you will be low just as fast too.
