Dietary Control for Cholesterol

It is extremely important for a person suffering from the problem of cholesterol to keep a check on the pattern of diet adopted by them because your eating pattern is major factor influencing the level of cholesterol in the body.

Some of the eatables are considered good for the maintenance of cholesterol level, such as, vegetarian or herbal food, toned, double-toned and skimmed milk, low fat cheese help a great deal in controlling cholesterol. Normal lemon juice, coconut water, onion, garlic, soups made from pulses but without the use of cream and all the seasoned vegetables are quite helpful. Include olive oil, green leafy vegetables, green tea in your diet and if possible try to have at least half kg of vegetables daily. At the end of the day, your diet should include only 200 mg of cholesterol.

Include more and more food items that have high fibre content, for instance, salad, pulses, black pea, boiled rice, fruits, soybean, sprouted grain and porridge. The fibre content of these food items reduces cholesterol to a great extent.

Take eight to ten pieces of almond and walnut daily. Soak them overnight in water. Peel of their skin in the morning and then eat. People suffering from heart problem, blood pressure or sugar can also eat them. Consumption of cashew nuts must be avoided. People who have high cholesterol level must take little bit of citrus food items, such as, pomegranate, lemon and orange, etc. all such things are useful for heart & liver.

Things to avoid

There are numerous food items that must be avoided or taken in lesser quantity in order to maintain healthy cholesterol level. Many milk related products are known to increase cholesterol level manifold. Pure mil, butter, cream, yoghurt prepared from pure milk, pastry, cake, meat, etc must be avoided. Soft drinks, pizza, burger, squash, biscuits must be taken in less quantity as these things are made from trans-fat that tends to increase cholesterol. People who have liking for non-vegetarian food must trim down this habit drastically. In addition to it, try to steer clear of oily, fried, roasted food.
