Depression Blues
Depression is the illness of body and mind where the brain faces some physical changes. Chemicals called “Neurotransmitters” that carry signals in our brain and nerves suffer an imbalance which causes this problem.
It is also called as a women’s disease because, women have double the chances of having this problem than men.
There are many reasons why an individual suffers from this problem. It could be genetic (family history), stress (new job, wedding), trauma (heavy financial loss, death of a loved one), Pessimist (negative thinker, low on self esteem), serious medical conditions like, cancer or heart disease or sometimes simple physical weakness.
They say “Prevention is better than Cure” for which one needs to know about the symptoms of this disease to prevent it in an early stage.
Get alert, if, you have a sad or irritable mood, your body feels too tired and interferes in your daily routine like work, sleep or eating habits for more than two weeks at a stretch, or, if, you no more like all those activities that you once did.
When there is a problem, there is a cure too and depression is no exception. Lots of Antidepressant medications are available in the market. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, known to increase the amount of neurochemical serotonin in the brain, and said to have lesser side effects than others, like, Tricyclic antidepressant and Monoamine oxidase inhibitors. Venlafaxine, Duloxetine and Mirtazapine are meant for chronic patients.Medications and dosages may vary for every individual.
Apart, from those medications you could help yourself by following some simple things.
•Do not over do things; both at work and home, it could stress you.
•Eat proper food, take proper rest, exercise and stay healthy.
•Socialize. Make friend and share your views, thoughts, feelings, etc.
•Think positive. It will generate all the positive energy in you.
•Look at people who are inferior to you in any sense and help them, it will boost your self esteem and make you feel good.
If still things don’t work out, then, ask for help. Consult a psychologist.
