Dealing with Loneliness

Loneliness can create boredom, frustration, impulsive behavior, restlessness and may lead to depressing feelings. Loneliness may be caused because of several reasons. Analyzing the reasons can help in dealing better with the condition.

Loneliness may be a result of lack of self-confidence and self esteem, due to which your ability to interact with the society is hampered. People having poor self-image, negative opinion about oneself, fear of rejection, fear of talking to others can get lonely.

You can overcome this condition by working towards improving your personality. You can improve your oral communication skills using self-help techniques or with the assistance of speech therapist.

A behavior therapist or counselor will also help you to overcome the negative feelings you have about yourself. By working on your limitations slowly and steadily, you will be able to grow into a confident and composed person.

Sometimes loneliness may be caused due to imbalance in the way of life. For example, people who pursue high stress, timebound jobs have very limited or no time for social interaction. Such persons may not realize that they are lonely till the time they are occupied.

However, with free time on their hands, their loneliness may strike them. The way to deal with this kind of loneliness could be to develop warm and meaningful relations with your colleagues, since you cannot find any other source for company or togetherness.

In the long run, however, it is advisable to live a more balanced and integrated life comprising both professional and personal relations. Living in extremes (for example, only focusing on your career and professional advancement) will give rise to a feeling of loneliness.

To reduce loneliness, you must also forge deep relations with friends or colleagues so that you have an outlet to share your feelings and emotions. Finding an understanding and sensitive partner will also help you to find companionship and togetherness, and overcome loneliness.
