Coping with Anxiety

Anxiety can cause various physical conditions and discomfort, like headache, nausea, dizziness, trembling, chills etc.  It also has negative consequences on mental well being as it leads to tension, stress, exhaustion, frustration, agitated state of mind, loss of peace and calm.

There may be many situations in life that can provoke anxiety.  If our coping mechanisms for anxiety are faulty, it can lead to severe emotional and physical distress.

To cope with anxiety, the first step is to know the events and identify the factors that cause anxiety attacks.  Once you are aware of the causes, you will be in a better position to improve your adaptability and coping skills.

Having a carefree attitude can help you to effectively cope.  Do not give more importance to a problem than what is actually deserves.  Do not make a small problem into an issue of huge complication. Realistic and objective assessment of the situation will be helpful to avoid panic attacks and extreme anxiety.

Do not look at threatening situations as a matter of life and death.

Realize that you cannot always control situations, and at times it is best to allow life to takes its own course and move along with it.  Trying to change things that you have no control over will only cause anxiety, and more pressure and stress.

Being prepared can be an easy way to cope with anxiety.

Have a broad and positive approach towards life and do not feel threatened by anxiety provoking situations.  The best way to get over anxiety and overcome it is to make yourself go through it.

Keep an open mind, and resist hesitation and fear.  Do your best and leave the rest to destiny/God, or whichever force you believe in.

Having self-confidence and faith in your abilities will also help you to cope better in anxiety provoking situations.
